Ashley and I have been listening to a lot of Queen lately. Sure, they aren’t exactly new, but I haven’t listened to Queen in years (aside from the usual Karaoke performances of “Bohemian Rhapsody” and when they play “We Are the Champions” and “We Will Rock You” at sporting events). I downloaded their large greatest hits collection recently and found it strangely refreshing. I’m not even sure why I am mentioning any of this in a post since they are a well known band and most likely noone cares. Mainly I just wanted to post a Queen video because it fits with my currently silly mood.
We also rented the DVD for the television show Flight of the Conchords. It’s about a couple dudes from New Zealand who are in an unsuccessful band. They wander around and bust out into songs at random times. Like Queen, this show is not particularly new and is pretty silly. These guys have been cracking me up.
Update: The second disc wasn’t nearly as good as the first. Perhaps the show is already “jumping the shark”.

It turns out that I really like caves. Ashley took me to both Crystal Caverns and Natural Bridge Caverns the last couple of weekends. I’m no spelunking expert, but the formations in the caves were beautiful. We liked Natural Bridge Caverns a bit better as the formations were more impressive and the tour guide was more knowledgeable. We’ll probably hit Inner Space Cavern sometime soon, as it’s in Austin and I still haven’t been there. I took quite a few pictures at Natural Bridge Caverns, which you can see here, but wasn’t able to capture its full awesomeness.

So apparently we have a model among us. Our buddy Sara got invited to do some modelling for a fashion show that was organized by GOOD Magazine. The show had an environmentalist/sustainable hippie theme to it, and everyone was wearing 100% recycled-hemp organic-pesticide-free clothing from local stores — well, not exactly, but you know what I mean. Even though I’m not a clothing enthusiast, the show was a lot of fun, and it’s always nice to go down to South Congress and hang out. Later we all went to the Continental Club lounge where Louis and I got spanked by some girl in ping-pong. She got lucky.

Speaking of touristy things to do in San Antonio, we went to Sea World this weekend as part of Ashley’s birthday celebration week (All of our friends get a full week of birthday festivities, since one day isn’t enough). Now, we’re probably the only Texans who haven’t been to Sea World before, so now that we’re entering our late 20’s, we figured it would be a great time to watch some whales shake people’s hands and such. And no one is too old to watch sea lion detective duo Clyde and Seamore solve the mystery of disappearing fish.
The shows were actually really cool, and the rides were a blast. After today, I decided that I will visit water parks more often. I forgot just how much fun waterslides and wave pools are. I feel a Schlitterbahn trip coming very soon.
Another first this weekend was when we went to the Sheesha/Shisha Cafe. Where I come from, they call them “hookahs”, but on Babcock Road in San Antonio, there are sheesha places everywhere. We tried the watermelon-flavored tobacco, and it was quite fun to smoke and lasted forever.
So what did we learn? 1) Dolphins are really damn smart, 2) Everyone should ride waterslides more often, and 3) It’s much funner to smoke through a hose you share with your best friends than it is to smoke cigarettes. That is all.
